The tallinja card is an intelligent bus card designed to make it easy for you to use the bus. The card is personalised with your photo and name and can be topped up with credit easily online, over the phone, at any of our sales outlets or at any MaltaPost post office. Your credit will not expire.
When using your tallinja card you will benefit from cheaper fares than when you pay on the bus. Every time you board the bus simply touch the reader on the bus with your tallinja card. A fare for every journey will be deducted automatically from your available credit. It’s that easy and much quicker!
Different cards and fares are available for Children, Students, Adults, Kartanzjan Holders, Special ID Card Holders and Gozo Residents.
When using your tallinja card, you will automatically benefit from daily, weekly or monthly capping depending on your card. This means that once the total spend of all your journeys reaches a certain amount you will not pay for any more journeys in that same day, week or month (excluding night services). The more you travel, the more you save!

Registering for your tallinja card is simple, and can be done in one of two ways. You will be required to provide your email and/or mobile phone number which will be used for us to communicate with you.
Following the instructions makes sure your application is processed in an efficient manner, without any delays. We aim to deliver the card within two weeks of registration.
- Online: Click here and simply follow the instructions and fill in the required fields. Some fields are mandatory, and need to be populated.
If you are a Maltese e-ID card holder and choose to give us your e-ID Card document number, we will be able to take the photo from the National Identity Database Management System or the Car Licensing Database. This will facilitate the processing of your card, and make the process a swifter one.
If you are a holder of any other identity document, you will be asked to upload a photo and a copy of your document.
A registration fee of €10 applies for all cards, together with registered postage charges and a minimum top-up amount of €20 to activate the card (reduced to €10 in the case of Child and Concession Cards). This amount of top-up credit will be able to be used immediately upon receiving the card. Your credit will not expire.
- At one of our Sales and Information Offices: You can download a form here. Please fill in the application form and provide all documents as listed on the reverse side of the application form and return the filled application to any Sales and Information Offices. You will also be given a receipt when you hand in the application.
